Getting Started
WHAT IS IDEA22
Idea22 was developed from the ground up to enable the masses to mass-educate - Idea22 uses video sharing technology to create a social learning system.
So what is a social learning system?
Social learning systems have several features that make teaching with video easy and comprehensive:
- Videos can be organized into virtual 'courses' (using our course builder tool) that can then be inserted into any website or blog.
- Videos can have supporting documents attached - example: teachers notes etc …
- Software demo videos keep their original dimensions, so that the image is crystal clear.
- Videos play at a much higher resolution than anywhere else on the Web.
In a nutshell: idea22 makes it easy to organize, distribute and promote video based courses.
HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM
Nothing special to do really:
- Create an account.
- Upload your educational videos.
- Use the embed functionality to insert your videos and courses into websites and blogs.
- You're done.
HOW TO CREATE VIDEO TUTORIALS
Please check out the idea22 forums for up-to-date tutorials and instructions on how to create video tutorials:
VIDEO OUTPUT SETTINGS
We accept several video types but recommend the following:
- FLV with VP6 encoding.
- Quicktime H264
- WMV
Max video weight: 40 megs
Video Length: Try to keep the videos less than
10 minutes long. If you have a longer video tutorial, cut it into
sections (part 1, 2, 3 etc …) and upload each of them as separate
videos.
Max video dimensions: 850 X 675 (width/ height)
Note: You can make the video smaller if you like - but try to keep the video wider than taller.
CAMTASIA VIDEO SETTIGS (For PC screen capture videos/software demos)
These are the optimal video output settings for use with Camtasia:
Max dimensions: 850 X 675 (width/ height)
You can make it smaller if you like - but try to keep the video wider than taller.
Output Settings:
Format: FLV using the VP6 codec.
Framerate: auto
Max Bitrate: 512
Bitrate control: Variable 2 pass.
Quality: 100%
Key Frame Rate: 5
Target: Flash 8
Audio: mp3 mono 22 Hz
MAC OSX SCREEN CAPTURES
We use iMovie HD to edit our screencasts.
… Just use an HD format project! 720p works fine. You can later trim the sides if you prefer a 4:3 aspect ratio when you export to QuickTime.
The Mac process:
- ishowu - to do screen captures.
- iMovieHD (750pi) to edit and output as high quality QT.
- Optional: Use Flash demo to output FLV or simply upload your Quicktime videos.
