Since breathing can be controlled by the mind (and that means you,) you can then use breathing to control other autonomic functions in the body .. things like your heart rate for example.

The 'breath' is the bridge between the mind and the body. So why is the breath the bridge between the mind and body?
First, let's use a better way to describe the 'breath' and so let's now refer to it as: breathing.
So to clarify, it is not the breath itself that forms this bridge (between) the mind and the body, but it rather the breathing.
OK, so why is does breathing provide this bridge?
Answer: breathing is the only autonomic function that can be controlled by the conscious mind.
.. now that is something I would guess most yogi had no idea.
